Stamps of St Helena
The first Post Office was established on St. Helena in 1815, and the first handstruck stamp
was introduced shortly after the opening of the Post Office. The first adhesive stamps of St. Helena were introduced in 1856.

- Philatelic Rarities: Tristan Relief Fund Surcharges
- In 1961 when Tristan da Cunha was hit by volcanic activity, a supply of Tristan da Cunha stamps were locally
surcharged ST. HELENA Tristan Relief with an amount for a relief fund. As the issue was not authorised by
the Colonial Office in London, the stamps had to be withdrawn. These are among the rarest of modern stamps as only 434 sets were sold.
Shown on this British Library Collections page is a card bearing three of the four values in the set, sent by the Governor of St Helena to The Rt. Hon.
Reginald Maudling, MP, Secretary of State for the Colonies, informing him of the new stamps.
