Viet Minh Overprints on the Stamps of Indo-China 1945-1946
On September 2, 1945 Ho Chi Minh declared the independence of the Democratic Republic of Viet Nam. Some time after this date, and until December 1946, the stamps of Indo-china were reprinted and overprinted by the new government using worn machinery in sub-optimal conditions, resulting in many perforation, overprint, paper and color varieties. This site is a comprehensive reference guide to these emissions.

While by no means exhaustive, it should give the military postal history collector a starting point for identification. Some of the terms are illustrated by links to images of relevant covers.
