is is an ongoing reference project by the Fake & Fantasy Group of the Society of Indo-China Philatelists.
This site currently contains images and information about fake and genuine Vietcong, South Indo-China
overprints and Fantasy Cancels of Indo-China. More material is being added continually and there are
plans to publish some of the findings in handbook form.
The Society of Indo-China Philatelists is an organization for collectors of Indo-China, Vietnam, Cambodia,
Laos and related areas. It is an affiliate of the American Philatelic Society.
On September 2, 1945 Ho Chi Minh declared the independence of the Democratic Republic of Viet Nam. Some time
after this date, and until December 1946, the stamps of Indo-china were reprinted and overprinted by the new
government using worn machinery in sub-optimal conditions, resulting in many perforation, overprint, paper
and color varieties. This site is a comprehensive reference guide to these emissions.
This document is an attempt to list and translate many of the markings, and some of the abbreviations found on
Vietnamese military mail. While by no means exhaustive, it should give the military postal history collector
a starting point for identification. Some of the terms are illustrated by links to images of relevant covers.
